The Educational Technology (ET) department at the IU School of Medicine offers services for hardware that we have the capability and tools to repair. This service is offered only for persons affiliated with the IU School of Medicine with exceptions made at our discretion. ET charges $35 per hour for technology support that goes beyond the free services ET provides. The complete repair service may include billed services and free services. In these cases, ET does not charge for time spent performing free services when issuing the itemized invoice. ET will not install IU-licensed software on computers owned by individuals who are not affiliated with IU.

Services billed at $35 per hour include but are not limited to

• File backup or recovery
• Operating system installation
• Removal of spyware/viruses
• Installation of software not covered under IU licensing agreements

Rebuilding laptops is a common service. A laptop rebuild (backup, format, OS install, download and install drivers, restore data) takes 3 to 4 hours in most cases. This would incur a charge of between $105 and $140.
